Composite Bonding Teeth in London
We at South Kensington Medical and Dental understand that each smile is unique. That's why we provide a range of dental bonding services in London to suit your individual dental needs and aesthetic goals. Whether you need composite bonding for teeth that are chipped, gapped, or discoloured, we offer a range of treatments at our London clinic:
Single-Tooth Composite Bonding
This corrects minor flaws in an individual tooth (chips, cracks, discoloration). A tooth-colored composite resin is placed and contoured to restore the tooth. This results in a stronger, more wear-resistant restoration that mimics the translucency and luster of the teeth very closely.
Multi-Tooth Composite Bonding
If multiple teeth are discolored, misaligned or gapped, multi-tooth composite bonding may be the solution. Similar to single tooth bonding, the affected teeth are covered with composite resin. Nano-fillers have made composite resins stronger, wear resistant and polishable enabling longer lasting restorations that wear at a similar rate to teeth and are less easily chipped.
Cosmetic Reshaping and Contouring
Also called enameloplasty, the dentist reshapes the teeth to fix minor issues like jagged edges or slight overlaps. Together with composite bonding it may refine tooth length, shape or surface texture. Techniques such as enameloplasty enable you to remodel and reshape teeth without major surgery.
Repairing Worn Teeth
Teeth worn down from grinding (bruxism) or enamel erosion can be restored with composite bonding. The composite resin material mimics tooth structure, function and aesthetics while preserving a healthy occlusion. Dental bonding is a very minor cosmetic dental procedure for cracked, broken or enamel damaged teeth.
Composite Edge Bonding
Edge bonding involves applying composite resin only to the edges or tips of the front teeth — rather than covering the full tooth surface. It is ideal for worn, chipped or uneven front teeth where a subtle, natural improvement is the goal. No drilling or anaesthetic is needed and the treatment is completed in a single visit. Edge bonding is a popular choice for patients who want a refined look without a full smile makeover.
Our London composite bonding team can help you choose the right dental bonding solution for you to achieve the smile you have always wanted.

The Benefits Of Composite Bonding
Composite bonding for teeth is one of the most versatile and minimally invasive cosmetic treatments available. Here's why patients choose it:
Non-invasive
Composite bonding usually involves adding to existing teeth and not damaging them. Generally, the only modifications we make are to remove any old bonding or defective tooth structure, and to smooth any rough or jagged edges.
Quick fix, major impact
Why wait for a beautiful smile? Our composite bonding delivers quick results, transforming your teeth in a single visit.
Be kind to your teeth
Forget about invasive procedures. Our gentle approach offers a safe, minimally invasive solution for a more confident smile.
Wallet-friendly
Dreaming of a perfect smile but worried about the cost? Our composite bonding is an affordable solution to your cosmetic dental needs.
Simple
It's a very straightforward treatment that often requires much less planning than other treatments. We will always start with a clinical examination and a discussion about your expected outcomes.
Am I a Good Candidate for Composite Bonding?
Composite bonding may be suitable for a range of common cosmetic concerns. Below are five scenarios where bonding is frequently considered — your dentist will confirm suitability at your consultation.
Chipped or Cracked Teeth
A chip or crack on a front tooth can affect both appearance and confidence. Composite resin can be sculpted to rebuild the lost structure, restoring a natural shape and smooth edge. Most chips are repaired in a single appointment with no drilling required. Learn more about chipped tooth treatment →
Gaps Between Teeth (Diastema)
Small to moderate gaps between front teeth can be closed with composite bonding in a single visit, offering a faster and less invasive alternative to orthodontics. The resin is carefully shaped to widen each tooth just enough to close the space while maintaining natural proportions. Learn more about closing gaps →
Discoloured or Stained Teeth
When professional whitening alone cannot address deep staining — for example from tetracycline, fluorosis or root-canal treatment — composite bonding may cover the discolouration with a natural-looking layer of resin. Bonding is shade-matched to your surrounding teeth for a seamless blend. Learn more about discolouration treatment →
Worn or Short Teeth (from Grinding)
Teeth that have become shorter or flattened through bruxism (grinding) or acid erosion can be rebuilt with composite material to restore their original length and shape. If grinding is the cause, your dentist may also recommend a protective night guard to safeguard both your natural teeth and the bonding. Learn more about grinding and tooth wear →
Mild Misalignment
For teeth that are slightly crooked or uneven but do not require orthodontic correction, composite bonding can improve the visual alignment by adding material to create a more symmetrical appearance. This is sometimes called "instant orthodontics" — though it does not move teeth, it can make them appear straighter. Learn more about bite and alignment concerns →
Important: If you have active gum disease or untreated decay, this will need to be addressed before cosmetic bonding can proceed. Your dentist will assess your oral health and confirm suitability at your complimentary consultation.
How Long Does Composite Bonding Last?
With good care, composite bonding typically lasts 5–8 years before it may need repair or replacement. Some patients see their bonding last even longer, depending on lifestyle and oral hygiene habits.
What affects longevity: Diet plays a role — hard or sticky foods can chip the resin over time, and dark beverages like coffee, tea and red wine may cause gradual staining. Regular brushing, flossing and professional hygiene appointments help maintain the appearance and integrity of bonded teeth.
Night guard for grinders: If you grind or clench your teeth (bruxism), wearing a custom night guard is strongly recommended. Grinding is one of the most common reasons composite bonding chips prematurely, and a guard protects both the bonding and your natural enamel.
Easy to repair: Unlike porcelain veneers, which must be fully replaced if damaged, composite bonding can usually be patched or repaired in a single appointment. This makes it a practical, lower-commitment option for many patients.
Whitening note: Composite resin does not respond to whitening products. If you are considering teeth whitening, we recommend completing it at least two weeks before bonding so the resin can be shade-matched to your newly whitened teeth.
The Process of Composite Bonding
Although every patient is different, the composite bonding process usually follows a set of simple steps. If you're considering composite bonding, teeth are prepared and treated through a straightforward sequence that allows your dentist to reshape and enhance your smile to your preference. As such, most appointments will follow the same principles:
Examining the teeth
Prior to cosmetic bonding, our dental professionals will examine your damaged or discoloured tooth to make sure it is healthy and that there are no hidden cavities that may cause issues later down the line.
Selecting a shade
We then use a tool called a 'shade guide' to choose the composite material that matches the colour of your natural teeth perfectly.
Preparing the surface
Before the resin can be applied, the surface of the tooth must be gently roughened and covered with a bonding liquid to help the composite adhere and last as long as possible.
Applying the resin
We will then apply the putty-like resin and delicately reshape the teeth.
Curing the resin
Once the composite resin is in place and you are happy with the shape of your new teeth, we will apply a UV light to set the composite resin and allow it to bond with your tooth.
Polishing the teeth
The final stage is to polish the bonded tooth, which improves the appearance and gives a natural-looking shine.
You should be free to eat after just a few hours. Composite bonding treatment is generally quick (often lasting no longer than 60 minutes per tooth), minimally invasive, and it's unlikely you'll need an anaesthetic. Because of these benefits, it is an ideal treatment option for those who don't want or need veneers but feel that their smile needs improvement.
Thinking about teeth whitening?
We recommend completing teeth whitening at least two weeks before your composite bonding appointment. Composite resin is shade-matched to your teeth at the time of treatment and will not respond to whitening products afterwards. Your dentist will advise you at your consultation.
Composite Bonding vs Porcelain Veneers — Which Is Right for You?
Both treatments can deliver a stunning smile transformation, but they suit different needs and budgets. Here's an honest comparison to help you decide.
