Private Syphilis PCR Test in London
South Kensington Medical & Dental provides private syphilis PCR testing at our CQC-registered clinic. This test detects Treponema pallidum DNA directly from a chancre (syphilitic sore), providing rapid and specific diagnosis of primary syphilis.
Testing uses a venous blood sample, with results available within 3 days. This test is priced at £173.
No GP referral is required. Swabs should be taken from active lesions for optimal sensitivity. All samples are analysed at UKAS-accredited laboratories.
When Is PCR Syphilis Testing Used?
PCR testing for syphilis is most valuable during primary syphilis, when a painless ulcer (chancre) is present. During this early stage, serological (blood) tests may still be negative as antibodies have not yet developed. PCR provides direct detection of the organism.
This test is also useful for atypical presentations and for cases where early diagnosis is clinically important. Once the chancre has healed, blood-based serological testing becomes the primary diagnostic tool.
