South Kensington Medical & Dental provides private HIV screening at our CQC-registered clinic in South Kensington. This test detects HIV antibodies and/or p24 antigen in a venous blood sample, offering reliable screening from as early as four weeks after potential exposure.
Testing requires a venous blood sample, with results available within 1 working day. The test is priced at £66 (includes £50 phlebotomy fee). All testing follows BASHH and BHIVA (British HIV Association) guidelines.
No GP referral is required. Results are delivered confidentially through our secure patient portal. If a reactive (positive) result is obtained, we recommend attending your GP or a GUM clinic for confirmatory testing and onward care.
Understanding HIV Testing
HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus) targets the immune system, specifically CD4+ T cells. Without treatment, HIV can progress to AIDS (Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome). Modern antiretroviral therapy (ART) is highly effective and allows people living with HIV to maintain an undetectable viral load and normal life expectancy.
The 4th generation (combined antigen/antibody) test is the current gold standard for HIV screening. It detects both HIV-1 and HIV-2 antibodies as well as p24 antigen, enabling earlier detection than antibody-only tests. BHIVA recommends this test for routine screening.
