The Quantitative Faecal Immunochemical Test (qFIT) detects microscopic amounts of human blood in stool, known as occult blood, that are invisible to the naked eye.
Who Should Consider the Quantitative Faecal Immunochemical Test (QFIT)?
Individuals being screened for bowel (colorectal) cancer. Those with changes in bowel habits, unexplained weight loss, or iron deficiency anaemia where a lower GI source is suspected.
qFIT is specific for lower gastrointestinal bleeding and does not react to dietary blood (unlike the older guaiac test). A positive result warrants further investigation, typically colonoscopy.
