QF-PCR Rapid Aneuploidy Screen – Private Testing in London

QF-PCR (Quantitative Fluorescent PCR) rapid common aneuploidy screening is available at South Kensington Medical and Dental, our CQC-registered clinic in South Kensington, London SW7. This test is priced at £516. A £50 phlebotomy fee applies per visit for blood collection. It requires a blood sample, and results are typically available within 2 days.

QF-PCR is a rapid molecular technique used to detect common chromosomal aneuploidies, specifically trisomy 21 (Down syndrome), trisomy 18 (Edwards syndrome), trisomy 13 (Patau syndrome), and sex chromosome abnormalities. It analyses short tandem repeat (STR) markers on the relevant chromosomes to determine copy number.

Who Should Consider QF-PCR Aneuploidy Screening?

This test is typically performed on prenatal samples (amniocentesis or chorionic villus sampling) referred by an obstetrician or fetal medicine specialist. It may also be used postnatally when a chromosomal abnormality is suspected clinically. QF-PCR provides rapid results (1-2 days) for the most common aneuploidies while a full karyotype (which takes 2-3 weeks) is also processed.

QF-PCR detects only the targeted aneuploidies (chromosomes 13, 18, 21, X, and Y). It does not detect structural chromosomal rearrangements, mosaicism at low levels, or aneuploidies of other chromosomes. A full karyotype or microarray is required for comprehensive chromosomal analysis.

A trained nurse collects the blood sample by standard venepuncture at our clinic on Old Brompton Road, directly opposite South Kensington tube station (Piccadilly, Circle, and District lines). This test is typically ordered by an obstetrician or clinical geneticist — please call 020 7183 2362 to arrange.
